25.000 square meters of new dune heathland

A key part of the project is the restoration of the surrounding landscape. Artificial earth embankments from the former agricultural use are removed, allowing the original gently undulating dune heathland to be restored.
Using the existing soil and allowing the local flora to spread naturally, more than 25,000 square metres of new heathland will be created. This not only expands the characteristic coastal landscape but also provides new habitat for native insects, amphibians and reptiles.

Above the heath

A gently curving boardwalk made from untreated Northern European timber leads through the resort. Raised slightly above the vegetation, it connects the different areas while allowing guests to experience the landscape up close without disturbing the protected natural areas.
In this way, even the journey through the hotel becomes part of the landscape experience.

Rethinking the Klitgård

The architecture draws on the tradition of the West Jutland Klitgård. The main buildings are based on the classic four sided farmstead, whose sheltered courtyards have long provided protection from the wind and harsh coastal climate.
Towards the open landscape, the compact courtyard structure breaks down into smaller groups of buildings. A view corridor at least ten metres wide remains open, connecting the dunes to the west with the fjord to the east.

Built from the Landscape

The choice of materials also draws on regional building traditions. Red brick, untreated or black painted timber, thatch, and natural roofs covered with grasses and turf define the architectural character.
The earthy tones remain understated within the landscape, bringing the architecture, dune heathland and fjord together as a coherent whole. In this way, Landskabshotel Bjerregård is not simply placed in the landscape, but grows out of it.
